What We Do
Pinoy News Update is a topical comedy webseries intended to spread awareness of the Filipino culture in America, and connect people in the Philippines with their Filipino-American brothers and sisters - all through comedy! In the style of Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update, we poke fun at the absurdity of mainstream news headlines- either concerning our Filipino culture, or adding a Pinoy twist to it. We intend to expand our mediums to include written content that highlights Filipino current events and influencers in the community.

Our goal is to provide social and political commentary with laughs, and empower the presence of Filipinos in the media. Catch our correspondents not only in the newsroom- but also at the latest Filipino restaurants and Fil-Am events, in and around Los Angeles, California and beyond!

Who We Are: Meet The Creators

Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, Nina Gosiengfiao is the co-creator of Pinoy News Update. When she isn't writing and researching for PNU, she works at production company 3 Arts Entertainment, and is a SAG-AFTRA actress, singer, and stand-up comedian that performs all throughout Los Angeles. Some of her credits include Grey's Anatomy (ABC), The Mick (Fox), and Comedy Bang Bang (IFC). She's also director of Social Media for the organization Fil-Am Creative, that supports the advancement of Filipino artists in the media, and has a great passion for social activism through comedy!

Thomas Ireton's home was a melting pot of three different cultures and languages. Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan to an Irish-American/Japanese father and Filipina mother, he grew up avidly watching movies and TV shows with his family, which opened his eyes to pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. Ireton’s passion for entertaining people led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Film and Television Production, and Theatre, at LMU. He wrote, produced and co-directed LMU’s first narrative short film To Have and to Hold, which was shot in Tokyo. Recently, Ireton’s short film ‘Till I See You, was a finalist at the 2018 On Location: The Los Angeles Video Project film festival. He is currently an assistant to a senior manager at 3 Arts Entertainment in Beverly Hills, CA. Ireton wants to see more representation for the Filipino-Americans and his fellow LGBTQ+ community. He is also a stand-up comic, part-time yoga teacher, writer, and sushi-connoisseur.
